The amount of information contained in this mobile planetarium is nearly as vast as the sky, so kids will need to restrain themselves from labeling every option at once, lest nothing be discernible. Cardinal indicators located on the horizon show the direction you are facing. At the bottom of the screen you can see additional information describing the location, date and time. Kids can choose in the options menu which items to display and which to name. Starting Stellarium On opening a new installation of Stellarium, you will be presented with a 60° view of the sky as currently seen from Paris. Kids can choose to view the names of stars, planets, and constellations from Western (default), Aztec, Chinese, Egyptian, Inuit, Korean, Lakota, or Maori traditions. An interesting feature: the ability to customize the names based upon different star lore. In sensor mode, they can point the device directly at the areas they’re curious about and see the names of planets, constellations, major stars, and nebulae. Kids can open the app and immediately see which constellations, stars, and planets are in the sky above them. Stellarium Mobile Sky Map is a mobile astronomy app featuring touch-screen navigation and GPS positioning to view the night sky. The stellarium manual#
The Stellarium manual (Appendix C) says that catalogs 4 and 5 are based on Tycho data. Click the Configuration icon on the left side of the Stellarium window to open the Configuration window. I've drawn labelled arrows pointing to the relatively bright stars in the screenshot with the background image that are missing from the screenshot without the background image. One shows a screenshot with "Deep Sky objects background images" turned on, and one with that turned off. I'm including two Stellarium screenshots as evidence. Locate the Sun and center it in your field of view. Make sure the compass points (cardinal directions) are switched on, and turn on the local meridian.
Dive in a collection of many stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and. Part 1 The Sun Launch Stellarium and set your location to Atlanta, GA, on today’s date. This should cover magnitudes up to 15, so I was surprised that the missing stars were missing even though they are much brighter than the combined catalog limit (and I was somewhat disappointed that I hadn't discovered new asteroids or novas.). Stellarium Mobile features: View an accurate night sky simulation of stars and planets for any date, time and location. I'm using Stellarium 0.21.2 with star catalogs up to and including catalog 7 installed.
The stellarium Patch#
I found that (at least) 5 stars with magnitudes between 10.2 and 12.4 are missing from Stellarium's star catalogs in a small (around 0.5 degree) patch of sky near the Pleiades, even though many much fainter stars are included.
